Mahler's Seventh Symphony is probably the least popular of his nine works in the genre.
Completed in 1905, it was the last of his symphonies to enter the repertory of the Philadelphia Orchestra , which didn't perform it until 1978.
But the orchestra offered a nuanced interpretation at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, led by Christoph Eschenbach , its music director from 2003 to 2008.

How do you get a book of grave, intellectual critiques of Sarah Palin , printed by a recently-launched independent publisher, to get national press attention and a panel discussion on Entertainment Tonight 's "The Insider?"
Easy: call it Going Rouge and make the cover as much of a one-off swap as the title.

The noted violin virtuoso is in town this weekend, performing the Mendelssohn concerto with the Omaha Symphony under guest conductor Christopher Seaman.
Apparently, Kim wasn't overly thrilled when the symphony first invited him to play the Mendelssohn.

A concert violinist who doesn't like the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto is like a painter who hates primary colors.
It's hard to get work when you're uncomfortable with the basics.
Violinist David Kim, who solos in the Mendelssohn concerto with the Omaha Symphony this weekend, found that out last year.
I begged them to choose another concerto -David Kim
